Sprint to bring Android 2.2 to customers using the award-winning HTC EVO™ 4G Tues, Aug. 3

Sprint will begin sending update notifications to users in waves beginning Tuesday, Aug. 3 and the upgrade should be available for all HTC EVO 4G users by the middle of August.

The notification will let the users know that the update is available and it will provide the simple two-step over-the-air download process.

1. Users will receive a notification that Android 2.2 is available for download.
2. Once the user has downloaded the update, they will be prompted to install the update. The user will be notified that their device will be disabled during the installation process. The phone will be ready to use once the process completes.

For those who just can’t wait to get Android 2.2, there will be an easy user initiated option to download the upgrade. Customers can access the software update through their HTC EVO 4G under the Settings Menu > System Updates > HTC Software Update. This will initiate the three-step process also.

UPDATE - The Android 2.2 update will not wipe your personal data (contacts, apps, settings, photos, etc.).  That said, it is always prudent to back up your device before any major software update.  There are many backup utilities available in Android Market.

Porsche Hybrid approves 918 Spyder for production

As expected, the Porsche supervisory board has approved the development of the 918 Spyder concept into a series production model. The 918 debuted as a concept at this year's Geneva Motor Show with a plug-in hybrid powertrain claimed to provide 78 miles per gallon.

The concept used a 500-horsepower V8 along with a pair of electric motors with 109 hp each and a lithium ion battery that can provide 16 miles of emissions-free driving from grid energy. The powertrain is not expected to be changed much for production and Porsche has not announced when 918 will be available. There has been speculation that the production model could cost up to €500,000 (about $650,000 USD), although if it comes to the States, it should be eligible for a federal tax credit. Even with up to $7,500 it still makes the Chevrolet Volt look downright cheap.

Spinach and Artichoke Dip with Greek Yogurt

Spinach and Artichoke Dip with Greek Yogurt

- makes about 3 cups -

Ingredients

1/3 cup of olive oil
10 ounces of spinach, large stems removed
6 cloves of garlic, peeled and crushed
1 6 1/2 ounce jar of marinated artichokes, drained
1/2 cup of Greek yogurt
1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Procedure

1. Heat olive oil on medium-low heat, then add spinach. Add a good pinch of salt and stir often until the spinach wilts down. Let it cook till it becomes glossy, limp, and feathery in texture.
2. Add the garlic and cook another minute or two, just until the raw taste is cooked out. Then add the artichokes to heat them through, which allows their brine to easily mix with the olive oil.
3. Transfer the mixture to a food processor and add the yogurt and lemon juice. Pulse six to nine times or until just combined. Add additional salt and lemon juice if need be, then serve immediately or at room temperature.
